| Training |
The Chief Umpire, Annandale-North Springfield Little League, is responsible for insuring that Juveniles and Adults that umpire on a regular basis are fully trained and knowledgeable in the rules and mechanics of umpiring Little League Baseball. Formal training will be facilitated by the Chief Umpire. Mandatory classes are conducted:
| Rules Class 1 - |
Rules on Ball/Strike, Fail/foul, Catch/No-catch, check swings
| Rules Class 2 - |
Rules on Calling the bases, leaving before pitch
| Mechanics Class - |
Plate and Base Mechanics
| |
New umpires, or umpires 15 years of age or less MUST attend the training outlined above. Training will consist of 2 class room training sessions to review rules, and 1 field training session to review umpiring mechanics. Each prospective umpire must attend Class A, B, and C. At the conclusion of the rules training, a short test will be given which must be passed with a grade of 70% or better. If a test is failed, it may be retaken at a later date. If attendance at all training is not possible, arrangements can be made with the Chief umpire for self-study and taking the test at a later date.
Adults, and Experienced Juvenile Umpires 16 years of age or older are encouraged to attend one optional training class. The purpose of that training is to review new rules and to discuss advanced umpiring techniques.
