ANSLL 11-12 Americans keep rolling along with comeback win at Fairfax.
The ANSLL American team pulled out a thrilling come from behind, 4-2 victory
behind a raucous crowd at Fairfax Dominion on Tues night.
The night started poorly for ANSLL in the top of the first. Even though
Starting Pitcher Jackson Boehman struck out the side, ANSLL found themselves
trailing 2-0 before they came to bat as Fairfax pushed across 2 runs on a
double and two rare miscues by ANSLL defense. Both Boehman and defense gave
up nothing the rest of the way.
Bottom one saw the Fairfax ace pitcher also K the side but not until Kerry
Reed blasted a 2-out homer to cut the Fairfax lead to 2-1 after one.
Boehman was hardly touched after that, giving up a walk and 3 singles over
the next 4 frames while striking out 6 over 5 innings.
ANSLL couldn't get on the board either, and when Ryan Rossum's 2 out, bases
loaded long fly to left was caught to end the 3rd, folks started to wonder
if ANSLL could score on the Fairfax ace.
But, they got it going bottom 4th when Ryan Kane hit a 3-2 pitch very hard
and the Ffx 2b couldn't handle it. Kyle Goetlicher advanced Kane on a sharp
grounder to first. Then, pinch hitter Aaron Boyd roped a double down the
leftfield line scoring Kane to tie the game at 2-2! Tyler Choate followed
with another sharply hit ball in the hole and he hustled it out for a
2-bagger and ANSLL had its first lead, 3-2. After Jacob Eisner and Boehman
each worked walks after long at bats, the Fairfax ace finally was done.
Christian Firaben greeted the reliever with a single and ANSLL led 4-2 but
that's all they could get.
The top of the 5th helped seal it for ANSLL. With 2 outs, a runner on
second, and Jackson Boehman reaching his pitch count limit, in stepped the
cleanup hitter. He hit a hot shot in the hole that SS Ryan Rossum stabbed,
wheeled and fired. 1bman Kerry Reed made a sweet pick out of the dirt to
nail him in a bang-bang play. ANSLL was out of the 5th.
In the 6th Ryan Kane came on to pitch and closed the door quickly with a 7
pitch 1-2-3 inning helped by a nice play at third by Grant Thompson, and
fittingly, a liner to now-CFer Boehman, to end the day and send ANSLL home
with a great comeback 4-2 win.
ANSLL played solid defense all night, including a snag of a hot liner to
right by Kyle Goetlicher. Boehman pitched great and Tyler Choate called
another excellent game behind the dish, keeping the Fairfax batters
off-balance for most of the night.
ANSLL moves on, and travels to Cub Run to play SYA WEST on Thursday at 6pm.
