The Kehrer Cup

ANSLL annually awards the Kehrer Cup to the AAA player who best personifies Little League's characteristics, values, and qualities: loyalty, character, and courage. The award's namesake, Darryl Kehrer was a long-time volunteer of both ANSLL and of District 10. The winner is determined by a 3-person committee (including Mr. Kehrer) from candidates that are nominated by the AAA managers from their respective teams (i.e., one nominee per team).

The winner and runners-up will be recognized at the closing ceremony and the winner will receive a plaque and a prize. The remaining nominees will also be recognized at the closing ceremony and will receive a prize as well. In addition, Mr. Kehrer, if available, will come to the closing ceremony, shake each nominee's hand, and get a picture taken with each.

Each AAA manager is asked to submit one nomination from their respective team. Each nomination should include a short narrative description (1-2 paragraphs) of how your player fulfilled Little League characteristics, values, and qualities (specific criteria is detailed below). These nominations will be provided to the selection committee

Please note that the nominee is not necessarily the best player on the team (and often is not), rather the nominee is an "everyday" youngster who is enthusiastic about baseball, tries hard, has a great attitude, and best exemplifies Little League loyalty, character, and courage.

ANSLL has worked with Mr. Kehrer to develop the following criteria to use in making nominations:

1. Loyalty

The youngster who actively and enthusiastically supports his or her teammates. Celebrates his or her teammates' victories as if they were the youngster's own. Comforts teammates - in a positive way - when comfort is needed. Puts the team first.

2. Character

The youngster who is dependable, has good work habits, and tries hard. Comes to practice and games, and is on time. Will play any position he or she is asked to play. Has a great attitude. Listens well. Is enthusiastic about the game and shows good sportsmanship.

3. Courage

The youngster who always tries his or her best, especially when results are slow. He or she is persistent in efforts to achieve results; even if it takes all season. Does not give up. Stays positive in the face of adversity.
