ANSLL Playoffs / In-House Tournaments (before last day of public school) June

The in-house tournaments are held for ANSLL vs ANSLL regular season teams in the AA, AAA, and Majors divisions, all players on regular season teams in AA, AAA and Majors have the tournament schedule built into their season schedules. The tournaments are either a bracket or pool play format with a championship game on the final day of the season.  The method is determined prior to the season start by the ANSLL Director of League Operations (DOLO) based on the number of teams in each division. Typically these begin after Memorial Day and are scheduled to end before the last day of public school.

District 10 Tournaments (after public school ends) June - July

The Williamsport Tournament Committee governs all tournaments held at the District level and above.  The following guidelines are not intended to over rule a Little League rule.

The selection process will begin on May 1st of each year.  Players who have submitted a Tournament Commitment Form will be considered for Tournament Play.   Forms are distributed mid-April to the managers and collected by the managers and given to their Commissioners, so they can be tallied in time for the May Board Meeting.

ANSLL may participate in three of the District 10 tournaments, each division (American/National) will field a team based on available players:

  • 13/14 - Juniors only - 1 team
  • 11/12 – Majors only - 2 teams (American/National)
  • 10/11 – Majors/Minors - 2 teams (American/National)
  •  9/10 – Majors/Minors - 2 teams (American/National)

How are the District Tournament teams selected? What is their purpose?  (from the ANSLL FAQ page)

ANSLL Board of Directors select the method used for forming the teams, the June meeting is when most tournament discussion is on the agenda, although certain tournament decisions may be made throughout the year.
Majors and the 9-10 District Tournament play begins late June/early July and continues under a double-elimination system until one team wins the District 10 championship. The District 10 winner competes for the Virginia state title, the (Majors) state winner plays for the regional championship, and the regional champs go to the Little League World Series as seen on ESPN.   Teams are voted on by managers based on player ability and availability (not on vacation).

ANSLL forms District Tournament teams to participate in the District 10 Tournaments. Each squad consists of twelve available players elected from their respective League (American or National) from the Majors and AAA. ANSLL has sent 6 different teams to the respective District 10 tournaments. The Majors 12-11, the 11-10 and the 10-9 yr old tournaments were all participated in by ANSLL teams in years past. Tournament players must meet certain eligibility criteria, such as providing an original birth certificate (no other document will fulfill this requirement) for proof of age, and residence within the ANSLL boundaries.

Players in AAA and Majors need to complete the Tournament Commitment Form and turn it in to their managers.

Completing the form does not constitute a player is going to be on the team it only adds, or removes them if they say "no", from the pool of players eligible for selection to the team.

The bracketing and first round results slotted the 11yr old ANSLL American vs ANSLL Nationals at Pine Ridge.

Harrison (Sparky) Jones took the mound for the Americans and the Nationals got thisngs started early.  Ryan Tobin reached first and stole second then scored on a single by Hunter Gressly.  Conner Hall followed with a hard single to left to score Hunter.  Drew Hartley brought Conner home on a fielder's choice and the Nationals were up 3-0 going into the field.

Jordan Farmer took the mound for the Natioinals and Chris (Little Santan) Santaniello got the Americans started with a single to left and Ryan (Michiro) Peich followed with a double to score Little Santan.  Andrew (Bubba) James walked and Zach (Shaggy) Carmichael ripped a double to score 2.  Shaggy advanced to third on a fielder's choice by Tyler (Tyler) Krogel and scored on a passed ball to the Americans up 4-3.  The Nationals then brought in Hunter Gressly to stop the rally but Harrison (Sparky) Jones reached first with a walk and scored on a single by Michael (Micholas) Beatty.   Michael then scored on a single by Billy (Shoeless) Davies but Hunter was able to get out of the inning leaving Shoeless on third.  Americans up 6-3 after one.

The second inning began with Jacob Palmer leading off with a double for the Nationals but couldn't score as Harrison got the next three out.  The Americans only produced a single by Shaggy as Hunter struck out 3 batters to end the second inning.

The third had the Nationals threating again after Ryan Tobin drew a walk and Hunter Gressly got a single, for runners on first and second with one out.  A sharp grounder to short was snagged by Michiro who tagged the runner and threw to first to complete the double play.  The Americans got a single by Matthew (Bergie T) Bergthold and Michael (Micholas) Beatty drew a walk to get runner on first and second but Hunter kept composure and sent the Americans down without scoring.  Still 6-3 after three.

Little Santan came in to relieve Sparky and the American gloves stepped up again after Jacob Palmer got his second hit of the game a comebacker to the mound started a 1-6-3 double play to send the Nationals down.  Hunter kept the Americans in check only yeilding a single to Bubba and kept the score at 6-3 after 4 innings.

Little Santan sent the Nationals down in order after a nice Brooks Robinson'ish backhander in the hot corner by Micholas ended the Nationals half.  Sparky legged out a single into the hole at short and Bergie T drew a walk but Drew Hartley snagged a liner headed for the gap off Micholas' bat to hold the score.  Then Hunter picked off Sparky at second and struck out the batter to end the American threat.

The sixth had the Nationals produce a single off of Conner Hall's bat but they were unable to generate a run as the Americans held on 6-3.

It was a tight game every inning with some solid defensive plays and good hits.  The AL and NL pitchers both threw very good games.  Both teams played very well.

The Americans move on to play Wednesday at Pine Ridge vs SYA West.
